The MerlinMTX is a limited availability XMC graphics controller intended for experienced users in need of a true CCPMC solution. Software support includes Windows, Linux, and VxWorks. The MerlinMTX is a true CCPMC design and thus does not include a front panel and has the VITA 20-specified 113.75mm overall length. The board has both Primary and Secondary Thermal Interface areas for easy use in all environments and requires the customary insulating mounting gaskets. A Rastergraf partner, Mistral Solutions, can supply thermal frame design assistance. The MerlinMTX uses the AMD RadeonTM E8860 Embedded Graphics Processor, which includes 640 shader processors, a 128-bit memory interface, and 2GB of GDDR5 on-chip memory. The E8860 provides hardware support for OpenGL 4.2 and DirectX 11.1 as well as H.264, VC-1, and MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 video codecs. Multiple HD video streams can be decoded at once. An IDT 24T6G2 PCIe switch arbitrates between on-board PCIe devices and the XMC x8 PCIe 2.0 port. The MerlinMTX can be configured with a Conexant CX25858 multi-channel audio/video digitizer that can simultaneously capture both audio and NTSC/PAL video streams. Display outputs are provided on the Pn4 (PMC) rear I/O connector. Several configurations are possible including 3x DisplayPort (DP) 1.2 (each with multiscreen capability and resolutions up to 4K x 2K) or 1x DP and 2x DVI 1600x1200 outputs. PMC I/O Module (PIM) adapters are available for use with a VME, CompactPCI, or OpenVPX Rear Transition Module: The MerlinMTX PIM is used with the MerlinMTX/DVC, which has 2 DVI ports and optional video capture capabilities. The MerlinPXC PIM is used with the MerlinMTX/DP, which has 3 DisplayPorts. A unique feature of the Rastergraf AMD-based graphics boards is the inclusion of a true hardware-based Built-In Self Test (BIST) facility. The MerlinMTX's STM32F427 ARM CPU uses a combination of USB, ADCs, JTAG, I2C, and SMB to monitor and report board and E8860 temperatures, voltages, viability of major board devices, serial number, firmware revision, and other Vital Product Data (VPD). Communication with the ARM is via a private USB port. Rastergraf's support philosophy recognizes the lead-in and life-cycle requirements expected by the embedded computing market.
